Outfit Gallery
Outfit Gallery
In this tutorial, I am using the latest Firestorm viewer, which is Releasex64.7.1.11.76496. If you are using an earlier version of this viewer, the Outfit Gallery may not work the same way (I know that in some earlier versions, there is no Image... option).
All info in this tutorial is current as of January 26, 2025.
If You're Not Using the Outfit Gallery, YOU SHOULD BE!
The Outfit Gallery (at least in the Firestorm viewer) is definitely worth using. It makes viewing, saving, and changing outfits so much easier! Also, there are no upload fees for Outfit Gallery images!
Displaying the Outfit Gallery
First, make sure that you have the Appearance toolbar button on your toolbar. It will have an icon that looks like a little t-shirt. Unless you've moved them, your toolbar buttons should be at the bottom of your screen and should look similar to this image.
If you don't have that button on your toolbar, right-click on any toolbar button and click on Toolbar Buttons. This window will appear:
On the top row, fourth from the left, you'll see the Appearance button (with a small t-shirt icon). Drag it to your toolbar.
Once you have the Appearance button on your toolbar, click on it, and it will open your Appearance window. You will see three tabs: Outfit Gallery, Outfits, and Wearing.
If this is your first time using Outfits, the first two tabs may be empty or will have some default avatar outfits listed (I'll show you how to delete these later), while the third (Wearing) will show a list of all of the items you're currently wearing. Double-clicking an item in this window will remove that item from your avatar.
This is what mine looks like:
Some Notes About Outfits
Creating an Outfit
One important thing to note, normally snapping photographs costs 10L-40L per image. THESE OUTFIT PHOTOS DON'T COST ANY LINDENS!!! There are no upload fees for these images. (This information is accurate as of January 2025).
Wearing an Outfit from the Outfit Gallery
To wear an outfit, go to your Outfit Gallery and find the outfit you want to wear. Right-click on the image and select Replace Current Outfit.
Your current outfit will be removed and replaced with the new one.
As noted above, things that have been applied with appliers will not be reflected in the new outfit (like the black lipstick I usually apply to my goth outfits), so you might have to fix your hair color or makeup after you switch outfits.
TIP: An easy way to quickly update applier items (clothing/shoe or hair colors, not so much makeup) is to go to the Wearing tab, find the item (clothing, shoes) that you want to update, right-click it and click on Show Original. An Inventory window will open and bring you directly to the folder so you can easily open the HUD and change the color).
Deleting Outfits
Updating Outfits
You can easily update outfits.
Update a Single Outfit
If you are updating a single outfit (for example, you want to add a belt to a dress), simply wear the new item you want to add to the outfit, highlight the folder in your Outfit Gallery and press the Save button at the bottom of the Outfit Gallery. This will add and save that item to that outfit.
Update Multiple Outfits
You can also update multiple outfits very easily, but this is done through your Inventory. Let's say you switch to a new body, and you want to change all your outfits to include this new body. You can do this by replacing the links to the old item with the link to the new item. These are the steps (seems more complicated than it is, trust me):
First, open your Inventory and navigate to your Outfits folder.
Open an outfit folder that contains the item you want to replace, highlight the item, right-click, and select Replace Links.
In the popup, you'll see two fields - Old (where the item you're replacing should now appear) and New. In your inventory, navigate to the new item and drag it into the New spot. Click on Start, and the links to the old item in all of your outfits will be replaced with links to the new item.
Keep in mind that if you're replacing a head (as I am here), you'd then need to follow these same steps to replace the Eyes, Ears, HUD, and whatever else is part of the new item. But it still saves you the trouble of going into each folder and manually replacing them all or doing them one by one in the Outfit Gallery.
I think I've covered everything I could think of here, but I'll update this post if I forgot anything!
