NOOB RESOURCES: Getting Started & Some Basic SL Etiquette
Some Helpful Tips for Those New to SL
If you're using the SL viewer, install the Firestorm viewer instead. It's much more user-friendly and intuitive.
Once you're logged in (called being "in-world"), hang out at Help Island or the orientation place that you start in before heading to the RP sims. Take the tutorials. Learn how to walk, fly, chat, put on/change clothing, alter your appearance, etc.
If you're a vampire or BDSM RP'r (or other), head to your RP sims and learn the rules. Don't just head to the freebie shops and start trying to bite (or f*ck or kill) people.
Learn your way around your screen. Explore the menus and icons.
Read people's profiles BEFORE you IM them.
Once you think you're ready to head out into the world, you can start by clicking on the World menu and selecting Destinations, and start exploring!
Creating Notecards
- Open your Inventory
- Click the + at the bottom of the inventory window
- Select New Notecard
- Name the Notecard
- Double-click the Notecard to open it
- Add your text
- Click Save at the bottom right
